The Aqua3 Hope Digital site dedicated
to mapping utilises Ordnance Survey products and Chartech.
CHARTECH
Chartech was formed in 1989 as a result of research into
methods of improving the durability of maps when used outdoors,
particularly in adverse weather conditions.
After a year of research and development Chartech successfully
converted its first standard flat sheet encapsulation machine
into a prototype capable of taking pre-folded maps sheets.
Supporting its own research and development, Chartech continued
its initiative to produce films and adhesives to fit criteria
demanded by professionals within the Park Ranger service.

The Birth of AQUA3 Maps
Finally in 1993, after a 12 month programme of testing for water resistance, improved durability and a write on/wipe off surface, AQUA3® was born.
AQUA3® was launched in March 1994 and by January 1995 the number of sales accounts had moved from one sole customer to 140. The brand was becoming more popular but the films used were still designed for flat sheet encapsulation and lacked the flexibility desired by users. Chartech needed a 2nd generation film. Two years Further research and development resulted in new Patent map system in 1996 which is still used today. Sometimes its hard to make something better but we're still trying.
Aqua3 utilises GB Patent N°. 2312869
